NG54NE 14 centred 5850 4630

Situated on the coastal shelf which surrounds Brochel Castle (NG54NE 1) at about 40m OD is the deserted settlement of Brochel. The settlement consists of 25 ruinous houses and byres with their associated lazybeds and rig cultivation. Many clearance heaps lie all around.

Three roofed buildings, fourteen unroofed buildings, two of which are long buildings, an enclosure, a length of wall and part of a head-dyke are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Isle of Skye 1881, sheet xxv). Three roofed, one partially roofed, eight unroofed buildings, some field walls and part of a head-dyke are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1968).
