NT60NE 20.05 6530 0792.
This road runs from NT 6493 0819 in the NW to 6546 0778 in the SE, a distance of some 700m. Between the Martinlee Sike and the tributary of the Carter Burn to the NW of it, it is almost straight except where it runs down to the burn at each end. It turns slightly to the S on the SE of the Martinlee Sike and continues for about 100m before disappearing. The road measures 10m in breadth and has been levelled into the slope of the ground, so that there is a cut into the slope on the upper side and a built-up edge on the downward side. However, where the ground is more level the edges are defined by a cut ditch. To the NW of Martinlee Sike it cuts through rig and is itself overlain by an enclosure (NT60NE 20.04). At the NW end it may pick up as a hollow-way cut into the river-terrace on the NW side of the sike at NT 6489 0820. Also at the NE end it cuts through a building and its surrounding enclosure bank (see NT60NE 20.06).
The function of this road is unknown. It may be a quarry road built to serve one of the many sandstone quarries that occupy the ground to the E of Martinlee Sike, but in this case its course is ill-directed, or it may have led to a crossing of the Carter Burn.
