Gair farmsteadings is described in the Name Book (ONB 1858-61) as a "Farmstead in good repair. Slated & thatched". It is depicted as a roofed L-shaped building with one out-building on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1864, sheet xix), whilst on the OS 2nd edition map (Lanarkshire 1896, sheet xix NW), the outbuilding is unroofed. From aerial photographs and the OS 1:10000 sheet (1985), there are new buildings enlarging the L-shaped complex.
