In Balmaclellan churchyard (NX 651 791) is the tombstone of Robert Grierson, a Covenanter shot in 1685 by command of Col J Douglas at Ingleston, in Glencairn. Also in the churchyard is the tombstone of Robert Paterson, 'Old Mortality' who died in 1801.
