NT41SW 20 c. 406 126.

The life-sized lower right leg of a gilded bronze equestrian statue, which had once decorated an imperial monument, and the bronze base of what might have been a statuette of Victory, were found in 1870 at Milsington (NT 406 126), probably in draining a moss.

J Curle 1932; RCAHMS 1956

Both are Roman and are best explained as loot from a site in England, possibly acquired during the upheaval of 197 A.D.

A S Robertson 1970

They are the property of the Duke of Buccleuch and are deposited in National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS).

Information from OS Recorder (ES) 21 September 1973.
