(NT 3442 9714 and NT 3444 9714) Well Caves (NR)

OS 6" map, (1966)

At the mouth of the Well Cave there is a figure which appears to be an old cutting.

C Maclagan 1876.

The entrance of this cave is much weathered and abraded, and the cutting mentioned above was not located.

Visited by OS (J F C) 6 October 1954.

No carvings exist in the cave at NT 3442 9714. Dressed blocks of local stone suggest that steps ascended from it to the castle above (NT39NW 4).

The cave at NT 3444 9714 is small and dangerous to enter as slabs of rock are hanging from the roof.

OS Revision 5 February 1960.

Photographed by the RCAHMS in 1980.

Visible on RCAHMS air photograph F 7850-2.

(Undated) information in NMRS.

Site recorded by Maritime Fife during the Coastal Assessment Survey for Historic Scotland, Kincardine to Fife Ness 1996
