'When digging a trench a little way to the east of the (Wellhouse) Tower in Spring 1820, the workmen discovered a large coffin of thick fir deals, in which were three skeletons.' The coffins disintegrated, but the bones, which may be of criminals drowned in the Nor' Loch in the 17th century, were reburied. The bones of an infant were also found nearby.

J Skene 1822.
