NN90SW 41.01 9015 0498 Glen Bee Shieling-huts
This farmstead is overlain by a later sheepfold that stands on a terrace on the SW side of Glen Bee, where it opens out into Glen Devon (now flooded by the Upper Glendevon Reservoir). The remains of the farmstead probably consist of the foundations of a large building lying within the fold (GDEV98 109), two smaller buildings reduced to rectangular stances to the SW (GDEV98 107-8), a kiln built into a natural bank to the E (GDEV98 106) and two enclosures.
The terrace around the farmstead and part of the hillside beyond are enclosed by a earth and stone head-dyke that runs from the N bank of the River Devon (NN 8992 0454), across the E flank of Core Hill and onto Glen Bee (NN 9017 0502). It encloses both cultivated and rough ground, and intermittent lengths of field-banks can be seen sub-dividing the southern half of the interior. Rig is largely confined to the lower slopes, and tends to be slightly curving, measuring about 5m between furrows. In several patches the furrows pinch together at one end. On the W the head-dyke is overlain by two conjoined turf-banked enclosures, which were probably for stock (NN 9009 0487). A small building with an outshot overlies the ENE side of the southern of the enclosures. A small group of shieling-huts (NN90SW 41.01) lie to either side of the head-dyke.
Immediately to the N of the farmstead there are two conjoined subrectangular fields containing rig. A rectangular enclosure measuring about 15m by 13m is butted onto the W side of the fields. Immediately to the NE of the fields there is a sheepfold or bucht (GDEV98 112, NN 9023 0484), which measures 6.1m by between 0.8m and 1.9m internally and has entrances in the SE end and the NE side.
On the hillside above the N shore of the reservoir, there are the remains of two turf-banked fields, and faint traces of rig.
