(NT 3739 7135) Dovecot (NAT)

OS 25" map (1959).

The 18th century (A N Robertson 1952) lean-to dovecot at St Clement's Wells is single-chambered and measures 15ft square, with walls 1 1/2ft thick, of squared rubble. The N wall is about 20 1/2ft high; the part of it which rises about 4ft above the rather dilapidated slate roof is of brick. The entrance, closed by a heavy iron door, is in the S wall, where there is also a narrow slit-like window. There is a single string course around the dovecot. In the interior are 282 nests.

SDD List 1962; D C Bailey and M C Tindall 1963.
