Linear Earthwork, Rough-hope Rig. This work appears to be a head-dyke forming the SE boundary of ground formerly under cultivation, but it must be of considerable age as it has largely sunk into the peat where it crosses a mossy area. It is now 440 yds. long and runs from above the right bank of Wigg Burn, opposite Deep Cleuch, to the Hobkirk - Newcastleton road 220 yds. SSE of Piet's Nest; but no doubt it originally extended NE of the road as well, probably as far as the Hyndlee Burn. Where it is traversed by an old road (RCAHMS 1956 No. 118) it consists of a bank, ditch, and spoil-bank, and is 31 ft. broad over all.
