A cinerary urn was found 'recently' when cutting a road through the pass called Windy Gowl (name: NT 279 725) about a third of the way from the foot of the glen and a few feet N of the former footpath. The urn was buried some 4' or 5' under the surface, in an egg-shaped cavity about 3' deep and 2' wide. It had been placed, mouth upwards, between two rough stones set on end, with a third stone as a cover, and stood in a mass of black earth, mixed with pieces of charcoal, which filled about a third of the cavity; the urn also contained some of the same material. The urn was donated to the NMAS in 1856 by the Commissioners of H M Works (Acc No: EA 25).

G Logan 1859; NMAS 1892.
