(NT 2346 7074) Dovecot (NAT)

OS 1/500 map, (1895)

The dovecot at Craighouse, single-chambered, is almost square, 22'8" x 17'9", and was built in the 18th century. The entrance is in the middle of the S wall, with an oval window above the string course over it. When seen in 1944, much of the lean-to roof, of stone slabs, had fallen in. The gables had nine crowsteps each. Internally, there are 677 nest holes. Pigeons previously entered by 14 holes in a wooden frame in a dormer window in the roof.

A N Robertson 1945; RCAHMS 1951, visited 1920.
