(NT 23685974) St Mungo's Well. This well is in the garden attached to the Penicuik Manse and is of some antiguity. It is said the parish was once called St Mungo's. This well is now covered but the water runs into a cistern which is within a ruin immedeately south of it.

Name Book 1852

St Mungo's Well is in an inaccessable position but water can be heard running within a small square opening, at NT 2367 5990, about 1.0m square with a plain moulded stone frame, at one time fitted with a door, in a high retaining wall. The cistern at NT 2368 5990, is partly covered by a stone slab, and is filled with clear running water.
