The present Liberton Church was built in 1815. Its 17th. century predecessor, removed about 40 yrs before according to Fraser (1857), is described by Whyte as having had a west steeple and two aisles on the south, one built before 1631. Whyte suggests that its dedication was to the Virgin as a spring (NT 263 701) is called the Lady's Well.
