(NT 2746 3316) Birks Cairn (NAT)

OS 6" map (1964)

The denuded remains of Birks Cairn are situated on the summit of Birkscairn Hill. Armstrong (M J Armstrong 1775) describes it as " a remarkable large and regular built pile of stones", but it is now reduced to a height of a little over 1', and is 35' in diameter. A small modern cairn stands on top of the older structure. (Information from A McLaren notebook 1, 29)
