This village comprises an E-W street lined with houses on either side. This layout, which is depicted on an estate map of 1758 held in the National Archives of Scotland, Edinburgh, and subsequently on an estate map of 1797 held by the National Trust for Scotland at Leithhall, originates before the agricultural improvements. The N row comprises six yards and the S side has two separate foci at either end of the street on the 1758 map.
