(NT 1836 4161) Cist found 1938 (NAT)

OS 6" map (1963)

A cremation burial was found in April 1938 within an inverted cinerary urn of Enlarged Food Vessel type, dateable to the Middle Bronze Age. It was situated in the face of a gravel pit 100 yds S of Tappitknowe cottage. The base of the urn lay about 9" below ground level and it was closely protected round the side, and on the top and bottom, by six squarish flat slabs. The urn was donated to the Chambers Institute, Peebles.
