During building work at the old Royal Bank of Scotland in Harthill a well was discovered beneath the present structure. The well, approximately 4m in depth was drained and the sediments at the bottom were eexcavated. No preci se dating for the well was obtained but it seemed to be relatively recent in date, probably from the nineteenth century.
