Sir Robert Sibbald mentions 'a little fort' a quarter of a mile south of 'Nedderwood' (Netherwood - NS 775 784) on the Antonine Wall, and being one mile west of Castlecary fort.

NS 770 777. In April 1979 an excavation on a hillock, where just over a century ago John Buchanan noticed the remains of a 'Roman watch-tower', revealed an elongated stone platform 12m E-W by 1.8m N-S, abutting on the S kerb of the Antonine Wall.
It was a secondary feature, and seemed too massive and regular to be a Wall repair; wing walls extended W and E from its SW and SE corners, the latter traced for a distance of 4.5m. Substantial traces of burning were found on top of and adjacent to the platform, especially to the E, but there were no small finds to suggest prolonged occupation.
Trenches cut to the S in search of an accompanying ditch proved negative. The function of the platform remains unclear.

NS 772 778 The continuing search for a Roman fortlet at Tollpark revealed the S kerb of the Wall, with further evidence of repair, and a stone-filled hollow running away to the S.
