Kirkconnel gasworks: the retorts were hand-charged but had been re-built as recently as 1951 and were self-sealing; the old retorts were water sealed. The old retort-house, brick-built with honneycomb semi-circular vents at the upper level, still survived, and the coolers, replaced by new-type condensers, formerly stood alongside. The gas-holder framework was contemporary with the old retort-house and retained six latticed hoisting-masts.
Visited by RCAHMS (G D Hay) 25 May 1970. See RCAHMS LAR 4/1, 2, footnote 2.
