Dr Andrew Somerville recorded three sundials at Kirkside House in 1981. At the back of the house there was an obelisk sundial, said to have been bought in Edinburgh c. 1915. A facet-head pillar sundial with a pineapple finial was standing in front of the house. This sundial, dated 1727, was recorded in MacGibbon and Ross (1892) at Inveresk House, Midlothian. A third sundial, of the facet-head type and dated 1686, was found at the side of the house with the block lying at the side. However, sale particulars of 1989 state that 'three sundials (were) specifically excluded from the sale', so it is not certain whether the sundials remain at Kirkside House. (A Cassells, 17 December 2009).
