NS 5284 5556 Possible cairn, Malletsheugh: situated on an angle of an escarpment, at a small gully, on a low rock eminence about 60m north west of Netherplace Road. Very clearly defined, it is 17m in diameter and over 1.5m high. A terrace 1.5m surrounds its base.
About 40m south in the next field, at NS 5284 5552 is a possible cairn base about 16m in diameter, truncated by about a third by field reseeding. Also, there are possible cairn remains at NS 5261 5545, but most of this feature appears to be solid rock.

NS 5284 5552 An archaeological evaluation of a putative burial cairn (NMRS NS55NW 20) was carried out in advance of a residential development. Twenty-five percent of the mound was stripped; it proved to be entirely natural in origin. No archaeological deposits, features or finds were encountered.

The three mounds identified by Welsh in 1978 as possible cairns have been destroyed and their sites now lie under a modern housing estate. One of the mounds was partly excavated and found to be a natural feature (Conolly 2000).
