This three-arched structure, with walls constructed at each side of the towpath, constitutes a nineteenth century spillway, which channelled off overflow water into a sloping drain.

This spillway, or sluice, is visible on the OS 1:1250 Basic Scale Digital Map (2000), just to the NW of the point where a now dismantled railway had passed under the canal.
