Basin [NAT]

OS 1:10,000 map, 1979.

Formerly entered as NR79SE 37 at cited location NR 7885 9433.

Not to be confused with Crinan Harbour (on Loch Crinan, at NR 7810 9419), for which see NR79SE 65.00.

For list of sites related to Crinan Canal, see NR79SE 48.00 Crinan Canal.

There is a small hexagonal lighthouse-tower (NR79SE 48.03) at this basin, which was cut out of solid rock with the intention of furnishing large coastal vessels with access to a dry dock. This dock was never built.

RCAHMS 1992.

This basin is clearly visible on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Argyllshire 1874, sheet cxlix) and on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Argyllshire 1900, sheet cxlixSW) and is clearly marked on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1979) and on the OS 1:10000 raster map (ND).

Information from RCAHMS (MD), 14 June 2001.
