NO12SW 1149 c.119 237

NO 119 237 A watching brief on groundworks for an extension to Cameron's furniture shop between July and November 2003 revealed that medieval archaeological remains survived almost at street level under demolished buildings on Skinnergate. These comprised medieval floor and occupation levels, areas of garden soil and midden. Several worked stones were noted.

An excavation was undertaken for the site of a lift shaft. Medieval floor and occupation levels, gravel surfaces, post-holes and two sides of a building were found. The building comprised a timber sill beam for a stake and wattle wall, which was thickly daubed with clay. Three socket stones, possibly for door posts, were also found.

Archive to be deposited in the NMRS.
