Portions of a 'large coarse clay urn' found near Meigle were donated to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1855 (Accession no FR 225)

The sherds of a 'large coarse clay urn' that were found near Meigle and donated to the NMAS in 1855 belong to a Roman amphora (NMS FR 225).

They are most likely to have been found on the site of the Roman fort at Cardean (NO24NE 12), which is situated 1km N of Meigle.
