HY51SW 10.08 54158 11693

A shuttered concrete building is situated about 144m SSE of the Battery Observation Post (HY51SW 10.02) overlooking the shoreline.

The building measures about 4.6 by 4m NW to SE and is about 2.5m in height. It is set into a concrete well measuring about 6.6m by 5.8m NW to SE. There two observation windows, at the W and E corners, and the entrance is through the SW elevation. The concrete roof has the remains of a cast iron chimney sticking through it.

Though this building is annotated as 'A.C. Exchange' on the Public Record Office Gun Record Book layout plan (WO 192/264), it was orginally a mine watch post to watch for enemy aircraft dropping mines in the

channel and plotting their location. It was altered to an exchange at a date later in the war.
