(NJ 6120 4884) Camp (NR) (supposed Remains of)

OS 6" map, Banffshire, 2nd ed., (1904)

The remains at Auchingoul consist of a maze of irregularities that suggest modern digging on an ancient site, although the Roman nature of the site, suggested non-commitally by Shand, is very doubtful.

O G S Crawford 1949.

The remains are the result of quarrying. Parts of the site have been excavated to below ground level, and in one place there is a standing pool of water, possibly tapping the waters of a stream.

Visited by OS (JTT) 10 September 1964.

No change.
