Navigation Light (Fixed White & Red) [NAT]

OS 1:2500 map, 1965.

(Cullen: location cited as NJ 510 674). At end of breakwater: c. 1888. Small tapering circular-section sheet iron tower with cylindrical lantern, dome top, with ventilator. No longer shows light.

J R Hume 1997.

This light is assumed to be that noted on the 1965 edition of the OS 1:2500 map at the end of the projecting N pier, the longer of the two. The map notes a second light (of the same characteristics) at the end of the S pier (NJ 50996 67423), but an air photograph (SC 396848) of 1994 appears to record a light-coloured tower at the cited location on the N pier.

This light is noted in the 1980 edition of the Admiralty List of Lights.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 5 January 2006.
