(NJ 5750 0342) Macbeth's Stone (NR)

A large boulder projecting about 2 feet over the surface of the ground, traditionally marking the spot where Macbeth was mortally wounded.

Name Book 1867.

The Battle of Lumphanan took place "in a wood" on the 15th August AD 1057 between the forces of Malcolm III and Macbeth, the latter being slain.

Macbeth's Stone as described. The tradition that Macbeth was slain here is only tentative evidence available to site the battle.
