NO 110 441 During the dry summer of 1976 Mr McAllister of Tillicoultry was able to metal detect around Loch Clunie and also below the normal level of the loch. He found three items of 13th-to 14th-century metalwork in an area close to the site of the castle, the church, and the crossing point to reach the crannog-set tower house of the Bishops of Dunkeld. The items comprise:
Copper-alloy, shield-shaped pendant mount with convex profile and single suspension loop. Surface detail lost through mechanical cleaning when found. L 43.2mm. Acc. no. 2003.196.
Copper-alloy turret brooch with six settings for precious stones. Pin missing and surface detail removed by mechanical cleaning at time of discovery. Diam. 30.6mm. Acc. no. 2003.197.
Copper-alloy stick-pin with square chamfered head. Surface detail removed by mechanical cleaning at time of discovery.
L 88.2mm. Acc. no. 2003.198.
Though their condition is poor, the objects have been deemed worth keeping because they form a coherent group and help to confirm the nature of Clunie as a productive site. The items have been allocated to Perth Museum and Art Gallery via Treasure Trove.
