Taken from the Third Statistical Account for Argyll;
'Between the two World Wars the need for houses grew. As the first large housing scheme, the British Aluminium Company built, on the Argyll side of the river Leven, some 198 houses for their workmen and staff.'
Kinlochleven housing was built partly by the British Aluminium Company Limited and partly through the Kinlochleven Village Improvement Society, constituted under the Friendly Societies Act, with government grants and insurance society loans, guaranteed by the Company. The village was managed by the Company's factor from their estate offices at Inverlochy.
