Aerial photographs have recorded the W side of the Powfoot Nitrocellulose factory (RCAHMSAP 1994). The Powfoot Factory, situated approximately 1km SW of Annan town (NY16NE 39), was built by the War Office in c.1940. The W side concentrated on the manufacture of nitrocellulose based propellant, until the factory's closure in 1992.
