This grass-grown quarry is situated immediately W of the public road linking the villages of Thrumster and Sarclet, lying between an abandoned farmstead (ND34SW 324) to the N and the former Thrumster School to the S. Irregular on plan, the quarry measures 51m from NNW to SSE by 18.5m transversely and up to 1.7m in depth. It was probably opened in the late 19th century, first appearing on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map, but it had already gone out of use by this time and is annotated 'Old Quarry'.
