(HY 2484 2016) Rossel Howe (NR)
OS 6" map, Orkney, 2nd ed., (1903).
Two tumuli (Name Book 1880), or one large cairn, removed since 1880. On its demolition it was found to contain a cist with human remains, but nothing is known of associated relics. The stones, many of which are large, have been heaped up again upon the site.
RCAHMS 1946.
The stone from this cairn, which has been entirely removed, has been built up to form a massive wall, about 13.0m. long, about 3.0m. wide, and about 2.0m. high. At the SE end of the wall there are two large stone slabs, one prostrate (c. 2.3m. long by c. 0.6m. wide), the other upright (c. 2.0m. long by c. 0.8m. wide) which may possibly have formed part of a chamber.
Visited by OS (RL), 23 May 1967.
