Visual inspection after removing a lot of rubbish from the kiln: Photographs

This kiln is found at the south-western extremity of the raised seabeach known as the Back Settlement. It lies under an overhang of rock. The inner opening of the airvent can be seen. In front of it is the outline of a rectangular platform. The lip of the kiln is oriented to the north-west. The kiln was cleaned out thorougly about 1978. 8 metres to the south-west coming out from the steep hillside are two parallel lines of stone 2 metres apart. In the middle of each of these lines a thin line can be made out suggesting that this was a shed with wattle walls. Many of the trees in the vicinity have been coppiced.
