According to a resident, when the hydro was

being brought across from Rousay in the early 1970s, the pit dug

for the first pole at the point where the cable comes ashore,

encountered substantial slab-structures which were interpreted as

graves. The pole was re-located a few yards away. According to

another resident, the hole dug for the pole went into a

rich black earth, alien to the locality and thought to be

artificial. This was very easy material to dig a neat hole in.

The hole for the bracing stay however encountered substantial

stone structures but as the pole was already up it was persevered

with, and the pole was not re-located. - This suggests a

settlement with associated midden. According to [the second informant], the

black earth contained some animal bones. The banks are grassed

and there is nothing to show at the site except a slight

unnatural-looking rise in the contour of the top of the banks.
