Founded 1868 by A F Craig. Large complex of red-brick and corrugated -iron-clad steel buildings, incorporating original works of of 1868. The light machine shop and fitting shop are in a 2-storey, 37-bay block, and there is an 11- bay heavy machine shop, lit a 2 levels by round-headed windows. At the other end of this group is the L-plan foundry , part steel-framed with a 3-storey, 5-bay frontage. At the rear is a large steel-framed fitting shop dating from 1910, built by Sir WIlliam Arrol and Co. On the other side oft the street are the much altered single-storey boiler shops.
