This covered well stands within a square enclosure about 140m S of the pier, on the S side of the road leading to Barra Head Lighthouse. Roughly circular, with a flattened face on the NNW side, it measures 2.65m in diameter over mortared rubble walls 0.5m thick and 1.3m high. It has a flat stone roof and the doorway is on the NNW. The surrounding enclosure measures 10.9m square within drystone rubble walls up to 1.7m high, which stand complete except for breaches in the NW and SE sides.

Both the enclosure and the well are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map, annotated 'Pump' (Hebrides 1880, sheet lxx).
