On the central panel are three crowns, a boar's head, scrollwork and thistles. Below the panels is a low water trough.

On 25 July 1874 The Builder reported that 'Colonel Sprot and the officers of the 91st [Princess Louise's Argyllshire] Highlanders have presented the public with a drinking-fountain.' The fountain was designed and erected by Stewart, McGlashan & Son, sculptors.
