On Wednesday night, (7th February 1883), the Queensland, a large fishing boat from Prestonpans, foundered with the loss of all seven hands, about 20 miles east of the May Island. The disaster was observed by the crews of the Delight and Blue Jack, both fishing boats belonging to the same port, but owing to the heavy sea, were unable to render assistance.

The crew were engaged in hauling in their lines when the boat shipped a heavy sea, throwing her on her beam ends and capsizing her.
