HMS BAYANO was torpedoed by U27 without warning, whilst en route from Glasgow to Liverpool. It sank very quickly with loss of 195 officers and ratings.

Surveying Details

20 September 1972. The vessel sank 10 miles NW by W from Corsewall Point.

The site was not found during HMS FOX's survey in 1972. It could possibly be the wreck at 55 03 17N, 005 26 10W.

8 November 1982. A wreck is shown at decca red f 13.38, purple e 53.98, north brit chain. The conversion gives 55 03 04N, 005 26 32W.

23 October 1987. The vessel sank quickly about 6 miles NNW of Corsewall Point according to a report in Wigtown Free Press, dated 18 March 1915.
