Kinloch Pennant refers to a village of about 12 windowless and chimneyless thatched dwellings here in 1772, but it was not until the 19th century that Kinloch became Rum's principal settlement, and abundant woodland plantings began to transform the head of Loch Scresort. A remarkable example of an isolated designed landscape, much of what we see today was planted by John Bullough in 1890. The substantial rubble pier, 1847, with adjacent circular limekiln, c.1845, were built by the Marquis of Salisbury.
