Society, 18th century

White-harled, L-plan house (or inn) on the old road from Queensferry to Linlithgow; circular tower in the angle and improbably conical roof, overscaled dormer window-heads and finely cut stone dressings, c.1840. Something older in the western block, and possibly much older in the east wing. Easter Society is an utterly charming spot on the waterfront amid chestnut trees at the edge of the Hopetoun estate. APRS award-winning conversion of three stone cottages by Graham Law into a most elegant house

Taken from "West Lothian: An Illustrated Architectural Guide", by Stuart Eydmann, Richard Jaques and Charles McKean, 2008. Published by the Rutland Press http://www.rias.org.uk
