John Wheatley College, 1346-1364 Shettleston Road, 1894, John McKissack

Built as Eastbank Academy. Tall red ashlar school, symmetrical front with big Flemish gables. The academy was renamed John Wheatley College after refurbishment and a quirky brick extension c.1986.

Eastbank Academy Extension, 2001, PJMP

Extension to an unexciting replacement Academy built in 1986. One of the better examples of the 3ED projects for the construction of schools throughout Glasgow.

Taken from "Greater Glasgow: An Illustrated Architectural Guide", by Sam Small, 2008. Published by the Rutland Press http://www.rias.org.uk
