Sleat Parish Church, John Mackenzie, 1876-7 Another lancetted hall of note for its interior, which retains original furnishings of high quality. Brass uplighters illuminate the pews, and the gallery is supported by two timber columns carved with angels' heads. The pulpit is flanked by a pair of impressive sculptural monuments: on the left, commemorating Sir James Macdonald, the earliest known work of James Byres of Tonley, 1766, 'elegantly executed at Rome' and transferred here from the old church, where it had been erected by 1768. On the right, commemorating Godfrey, Lord Macdonald, a monument by Davidson, 1877, similar to Byres's design, with a coat of arms and other carvings in high relief, plus a long inscription.
