House of Aquhorthies, 18th century. From 1799 to 1829 this was the Roman Catholic seminary, following the reappearance of Catholics from their hill-fastness of Scalan ('Moray'). A very substantial, if plain, three-storey-and-attic, seven-window front in rosy granite ashlar, with a piended slated roof, neat, piended dormers and two massive lums.

Taken from "Aberdeenshire: Donside and Strathbogie - An Illustrated Architectural Guide", by Ian Shepherd, 2006. Published by the Rutland Press http://www.rias.org.uk
