Blairmore, 1884-5, A Marshall Mackenzie. Built as Blairmore House for the Chicago grain king, Alexander Geddes, and originally heavily crenellated, the flat-roofed western part (now mansarded), in dark rough-faced granite with light dressings, is like a half-built battleship. The overall effect of rounded angles corbelled to the square, pitched roof and crowsteps on the east and mullioned and transomed windows throughout is certainly baronial. Modern buildings of former school (1976) are wisely understated. Alterations 1986.
