Gordon's Temperance Hotel (site), The Square, late 18th/early 19th century. Now gone; formed a high, bold corner to

Deveron Street. Began suitably severe in squared granite, three windows to ground, two to first, but at attic level broke out into monumental chimney head subsequently flanked by extravagantly glazed, insect-eyed, canted dormers (similar to those on corner of Deveron Street and George Street). A great loss.
