Dating from around 1863, No 3 Maxwellheugh Terrace occupies one half of a single-storeyed double cottage. The use of random blocks of rubble and rock-faced stonework for the quoins (corner stones) give this cottage a distinctly rustic appearance. The front door has a gabled porch, with a gabled dormer window at attic level above. Other decorative features include barge-boards, woodwork attached to the gables, and finials at the ends of the gables.
